Catalogues and archives

The Museum preserves some manuscripts that testify to the development of the collections, together with documents concerning events, activities and characters of the Museum itself.

The catalogues of the collections cover a period of time from the eighteenth to the twentieth century and represent the most substantial part of the manuscript material. In addition to specific information on the individual exhibits, interesting elements emerge on the evolution of the exhibition, which gradually becomes more modern and sees the crystallographic models appear alongside the specimen. Another detail of interest are the changes in nomenclature, indicating the variation of the classification systems.

In addition to the inventories, the catalogues of individual collections are also present in the Museum, with the respective accompanying documents such as letters or notes. Some of these collections play an important role not only for their size, but also because they are based on classifications of historical interest for the evolution of mineralogy.
