The meteorite, sighted on 1st January 2020 and traced in its path in the atmosphere by the network of cameras of the INAF's Prisma (First Italian network for the systematic surveillance of meteors and the Atmosphere), had fallen near Cavezzo (Modena), on the bank of the Secchia river.

The fragments found on 4th January, the remains of the passage through the atmosphere of a small rocky fragment originating from an asteroid, were delivered to Vanni Moggi Cecchi, curator of the Litho-Mineralogical Collection of the Museum of Natural History of the Museum System of the University of Florence (Unifi), and Giovanni Pratesi, associate professor of Mineralogy at Unifi, members of the scientific committee of Prisma.

The fragments will be analyzed at the Meteocert laboratory of the University of Florence and at other laboratories in Italy and abroad to accurately establish their nature and allow their classification. A part of the sample, called the sample-type, will then remain permanently in the collections of the Museum.
