Admission to the Museums and Botanical Garden is always with free of charge ( a ticket must still be obtained) for people with disabilities and any accompanying persons.
The Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology has a wheeelchair-accessible elevator. The Museum of Geology and Paleontology and the Botanical Garden “Giardino dei Semplici” are developed on one floor, with no architectural barriers.
Guide dogs for people who are blind or visually impaired are always welcome.
The Garden and Museums can be reached by bus and cabs, as well as by one’s own means of transport.
The entrances to the Garden and Museums are equipped with an information point at the ticket office. We encourage visitors with special needs to contact the Educational Services office prior to their visit.
Multilingual information materials are available at the entrance to the Garden and Museums. For the Garden, an orientation map is distributed prior to the visit.
At the Garden and Paleontology, lockers are available for the visitors’ convenience.
The restrooms of the Botanical Garden and the Museums of Geology and Paleontology, and Anthropology and Ethnology are wheelchair accessible. At the Garden, the facilities are located inside the Garden - also with a baby changing table, while in the museums before the visit itinerary.
A hot beverage dispenser is located near the entrance to the Garden. Water fountains are located at the Museum of Paleontology and the Botanical Garden.
The Museum of Paleontology is equipped with an air-conditioning system. Within the exhibition itineraries of Garden and Museums, there is seating available.
Gardens and Museums are places that invite silence and are designed to avoid sudden lighting and noise, also for the comfort of visitors with autism spectrum disorders.
The Museum of Geology and Paleontology and the Garden offer tactile trails for the blind and visually impaired developed with the Italian Union of the Blind and VIVAT (Volontari Italiani Visite Artistiche Tattili).
At the Botanical Garden there is also a small electric car for a guided tour in several stages with a dedicated staff member from the Educational Services that can be reserved for people with mobility or visual disabilities and/or the elderly. The minicar can accommodate up to 2 wheelchairs.
The entire museum system participates in the network Musei Welcome Firenze and, through the network and beyond, holds guided tours, events, and workshops for all audiences (e.g Tactum and Arti e Scienze).
Amateur photography and filming, without flash, are welcome at the Garden and Museums. Please share on social media by entering the hashtag @instaSMA. Respect for the privacy of other visitors is required. For professional filming and photography, written authorization is necessary.
In the Museums and at the Garden there are points of sale where visitors can purchase a memento of the experience and support the University Museum System.
