Botanical Garden of Florence

Begonias

Begonie

The Botanical Garden's Begonias collection  gathers  almost 100 specimen belonging to more than 40 entities, including either botanical species and cultivated varieties. Among the most significant specimen are those belonging to the species B. maculata and B. sanguinea, as they are related to Giuseppe Raddi, a well-known Florentine botanist who discovered and described them, together with five other Begonia species, during a trip to Brazil between 1817 and 1818.

The collection is cultivated exclusively in pots in a dedicated greenhouse.
